We research and care for the archives of the parish of Barton Stacey, Hampshire and make them available to everybody.

My grandfather was stationed in Barton Stacey

for a bit during the war and was placed with

a family. I am hoping someone in the area

might remember him. His name was

HORACE M. DeVAULT. I appreciate any help you

could give me.

ARMY CAMP MEMORIES

I served  at  A Camp 1952 - 1956. I was a Cpl in the Royal Engineers in charge of building and maintaining the series of outdoor initiative tests.

The garrison Commander at the time was Brigadier Billson. Major (Chalky) Bywaters. Middlesex Regt was his 2.ic.

Potential commissioned officers were selected from National Service personnel. If selected they went on to Mons officer cadet school.

I was demobbed from A Camp. approx. 8 weeks later, as a regular soldier, I was recalled to B Camp for re - enlistment. B Camp at that time was the RE Depot. I was sent to Roberts Barracks. Osnabruck.  B.O.A.R.

I eventually returned to B Camp for final demob.

I remember the following personnel.  Cpl Tom Ottoway RA. He lived in married quarters. Cpl Bob Taylor. RA. CPL ?  Taylor ACC. CPL Fabricka  Irish Rangers. L.Cpl. Geoff Parks.  RE. L.CPL. Brown R.A.S.C.

I hope my ramblings may spark some memories and responses.
